A team that works well in the office is the key to any successful business. Since the weather is heating up, why not hold team-building activities outside the office? Whether it’s a day at the park, company Olympics, or a picnic on the local beach, activities like this can help build team morale and encourage collaboration.

Company Field Day & BBQ

A company field day is a great way to get out of the office and enjoy outdoor games with your co-workers. A local park close to the office is an ideal setting for this type of event. If this is not applicable in the surrounding area, the company parking lot will do just fine. The company field day can start with a catered BBQ lunch, followed by team-building activities such as a scavenger hunt and kickball game.

Company Department Olympics

With the 2016 Summer Olympics approaching in August, a fun idea would be to incorporate it into a month-long team building challenge.  Each department can be designated to a team and select a country they would like to represent. Such an event would foster competitiveness between departments and potentially increase department cohesiveness overall. Each individual Olympic game can be held over a month-long period and include activities like balloon tosses, relay races, and even trivia during lunch inside the office. At the conclusion of the Olympics, a big company lunch can be held where everyone can celebrate the winning teams and mingle with one another.

Picnic on the Beach

If you are lucky enough to be close to the beach, like we are at PCG, it is a great place to go for team building while having fun in the sun.  Spending the day at the beach leaves many options for team-building activities. Starting with a picnic lunch, departments can break into teams and play games such as volleyball, corn hole, and Kan Jam.

Taking employees outside of the office environment and allowing them to participate in fun events will help develop a more cooperative, collaborative, and cohesive office environment amongst departments, teams, individuals, and the entire functionality of the company as a whole. Allowing employees to interact with each other in this manner allows them to get to know different individuals around the office they may rarely interact with. As a result, employees throughout the office become more comfortable with one another on a personal level. This level of individual understanding amongst peers directly enhances the productivity of the working environment for the ultimate achievement of company success and future prosperity.
