How effectively does your organization execute its strategies every year? Do you achieve every goal and initiative? While many organizations have goals and strategies, many seem to fail at executing them due to poor communication, unclear accountability, and inadequate performance monitoring.
As an Account Manager, I find that proper execution is vital to success and in this blog post, I am going to teach you how to translate strategy into action so you and your team can execute effectively to achieve success within your organization!
Communicate Goals and Outcomes
Strategies are great to have, and while coming up with one can make you feel accomplished, they are just good ideas until they are executed upon. Before taking action, make sure you sit with members of your team to develop a clearly outlined strategy with goals and deadlines.
These goals focus your team’s attention and help motivate the individual. Without communicating clear goals to your team, the ideas you have in your head about your final result might not look the same to someone else on your team. To avoid misunderstandings, go into meetings with an agenda, set a clear vision for your team for what the outcome should look like and make sure you get their feedback.
Create Accountability
During strategy meetings and creating deadlines for your team members, make sure all goals are being accounted for. Go down the list of prioritized goals and make sure that each one is assigned to a team member. Before dismissing the meeting, ask if anyone has any questions or needs further clarification to ensure that everyone leaves confidently and knows what needs to be done. Having goals that are accounted for are key and makes for a clear, well-executed strategy.
Monitor Performance
Once everything is set into motion, it can be easy to get complacent, but you need to be vigilant in monitoring your team’s performance.. Sit with your team members to discuss their progress and ask questions. Are deadlines being met? Is their work still aligned with the goals of the project? Do they have concerns regarding their work? Adjustments may need to happen along the way as well, so making sure that everyone is still on track will only help the team as a whole in the long run.
